A new Atelier Resleriana game was announced at TGS
Atelier Resleriana: Forgotten Alchemy & the Polar Night Liberator is a first for the Atelier franchise: it is free-to-play. It fell into the trap that many mobile games do: too much of one thing, not enough of another. So I raised an eyebrow at the announcement of Atelier Resleriana: The Red Alchemist & the White Guardian — but it is described as "completely offline" so that could imply it is a normal, premium Atelier game. It remains to be seen.
Not a lot has been revealed about this new title, but here is the official description so far:
"A new RPG from the Atelier series. A new adventure with new protagonists and an original story in the world of Atelier Resleriana: Forgotten...
In the years since its release Pokemon Emerald has received a lot of attention. Outside of being beloved by fans of the series, there have been people attempting to beat the game with any number of ridiculous conditions, all while sticking to the vanilla game. The creativity of the larger community has always stood out, seeing the game tackled without Pokemon Centers, through various nuzlocke challenges, and with any number of unusual Pokemon choices. What have I never seen in Pokemon Emerald though? An incredibly inefficient file system.
MON-FS is here to solve a problem nobody has ever had, and enables you to store a colossal 3.5kb of data in the PC of your Pokemon Emerald save. The principle here is nothing revolutionary, but the...
City Connection has announced that the next three Jaleco titles coming to Nintendo Switch, as part of its 'JALECOlle Famicom Edition' series, will be Saiyūki World, Magic John, and Pizza Pop!
The announcement was made just a couple of days ago across both City Connection's social media and official website, though no date has been given just yet as to when these titles will become available for players to buy.
Saiyūki World (1988), in case you're unfamiliar with it, is a Japan-exclusive action-adventure RPG based on Wonder Boy in Monster Land and inspired by the 16th-century Chinese novel Journey to the West.
It was developed by Westone (the developers of Wonder Boy in Monster Land) and sees players take control of Sun Wukong (also...
Here's some news no one particularly expected — FreakZone Games (the developers of Angry Video Game Nerd 1 & 2 Deluxe) and Metal X Entertainment (a subsidiary of BitBotMedia) are adapting the cult classic horror musical Rocky Horror Picture Show into a retro-style platformer that is coming to Steam, Xbox, Nintendo Switch, and PlayStation next month, just in time for Halloween (thanks TheWrap!).
The unexpected adaptation will see players "running, jumping, and dancing" through Doctor Frank-N-Furter's mansion as characters from the musical and 1975 film (including Brad, Janet, and Dr. Scott), with the gameplay described as a mixture of classic NES titles like DuckTales and Castlevania.
It will also incorporate various chiptune...
Programmer and Jaguar fan Rich Whitehouse – who is also Head of Digital Conservation The Video Game History Foundation – has revealed that his iOS Jaguar emulator is almost ready for public release.
Whitehouse showed off a screenshot of the emulator in action, running the iconic Tempest 2000, one of the console's most beloved games.
He has also confirmed that the release is very close indeed. "[There's] still lots of work to be done," he says on Twitter. "But I'm hoping to have this ready to go sometime next month."
We've seen a flood of retro game emulators appear on iOS since Apple relaxed its stance a few months ago. Multi-system emulator Delta is arguably the most famous, but we've also had individual emulators for Saturn, 3DS...
The Tetris Company and the Japanese developer Arika have announced that they've reached an agreement for a new Tetris The Grand Master game.
The news was shared via an English and Japanese press release, published earlier today (September 27th), and states that the project will introduce new ideas based on the concept of "Tetris that makes [you] good at Tetris." Beyond that, very little else was revealed about the title, except that it is currently scheduled to be released during the fiscal year 2024, which is slated to end in March 2025.
Just to give a brief bit of history, Arika's Tetris The Grand Master was first released in arcades in 1998, with the goal of the project being to introduce a greater layer of difficulty and...
The world is becoming increasingly digital when it comes to the media we consume. Streaming has reduced sales of music and movies dramatically, and games are headed the same way; over 90% of the games sold in the UK are digital.
Digital media has many positive aspects when it comes to video games. You can purchase a game directly through your console or computer without having to leave the house or wait for it to be delivered physically. You also don't have to swap discs or cartridges whenever you want to play a game, which is good news for those of us who tend to lose or misplace things (or are just plain lazy).
However, as many people are keen to point out, you don't actually own digital games, and a new Californian law will ensure...
Sony's recent State of Play broadcast gave us many pleasant surprises, but as retro gamers and lovers of classic JRPGs, the news that the PS1 versions of Lunar and its sequel are getting remasters was very welcome indeed.
Developed by GungHo, Lunar Remastered Collection is coming to PS5, PS4, Switch and Xbox Series X/S, and updates Lunar: Silver Star Story Complete and Lunar 2: Eternal Blue Complete for a new generation. In case you didn't know, both games were originally released on the Sega CD and were updated for Sony's 32-bit hardware over 20 years ago.
The Western versions of the games were localized by Working Designs, a North American company founded by Victor Ireland that specialized in bringing over Japanese RPGs.
John...
Riley Testut, the developer of the popular multi-system Delta emulator for iOS, has revealed that Nintendo DS online multiplayer is coming to the app.
Testut broke the welcome news by showing off a video of a Mario Kart DS online race on Threads.
As he explains to The Verge, the online features are powered by melonDS' online support, "which connects to 3rd-party Nintendo [Wi-Fi Connection] servers (such as Kaeru, Wimmfi, AltWFC, etc)."
This means over 10 million Delta users will be able to play with other Delta users, as well as players using authentic DS hardware connected to the same 3rd-party Nintendo WFC servers. All Nintendo DS games with Nintendo WFC are supported, according to Testut.
Given that the online servers for the DS...
Zanrai Interactive has just shown off Visegunne, a new shmup featuring big robots, lovely 2D visuals and a strong single-player story.
The game is listed as "coming soon" on Steam and is billed as a "non-bullet-hell shoot 'em up where explosive action unfolds around you."
Boasting "narrative-driven missions, a vast arsenal of weapons, and over-the-top visual effects," Visegunne sees you "pilot a soul-powered combat mech as you protect the colonies from a pro-Earth terrorist conspiracy."
Here's some more info:
If this all sounds like it's right up your street, then be sure to wishlist the game on Steam.
As you've probably already seen, Nintendo's Japanese museum is close to opening, and the internet has been flooded with preview images showing off exhibits, displays and – yes – merchandise.
The museum's shop is packed with goodies covering pretty much every era of the company's history, including Wii, N64, Game & Watch and Virtual Boy.
The inclusion of the latter seems to have surprised some people, given that the Virtual Boy is one of Nintendo's most high-profile flops.
While it didn't sell particularly well, Nintendo has acknowledged the Virtual Boy previously; it appeared in Tomodachi Life, WarioWare and even as a bonus item in the 3DS StreetPass mode.
So it perhaps shouldn't come as a massive shock to see Nintendo promoting...
From the creator of Final Fantasy, Fantasian launched via Apple Arcade in two parts during 2021. Even then, I hoped the RPG would be released for PC and consoles. Apple Arcade has a limited pool of potential subscribers and Fantasian was too impressive to stay exclusive to that small percentage of players. First announced during June's Nintendo Direct, this enhanced version of Fantasian includes English and Japanese voiceovers, an additional difficulty option, and 4K support for PC/PlayStation 5/Xbox Series X. And its release date has now been set for early December!
Fantasian Neo Dimension is one of the most visually stunning games in recent memory. There are over 150 hand-crafted dioramas to explore; each was made by hand before...
Originally due out in two months, Ubisoft has decided to delay Assassin's Creed Shadows. Part of the reason for the delay is because of player feedback from Ubisoft's other recent release, Star Wars Outlaws, which garnered lots of negative reception for overly difficult stealth sections, which Ubisoft's Massive Entertainment has been tasked with patching post-launch. The company is hoping that the extra time to polish the game will make for a better overall game, and will lead to better sales, as their recent output has been disappointing, commercially, according to a recent financial report. Assassin's Creed Shadows is now due out on February 14th.

The original Resident Evil classic trilogy is now complete, as today, the last entry of the PlayStation classics has joined Resident Evil (1996) and Resident Evil 2 (1998) on GOG for purchase, culminating the promise of GOG on bringing all 3 classics for modern systems.
This new GOG release of Resident Evil 3: Nemesis includes the following features:
Full compatibility with Windows 10 and Windows 11.

Hamster Corp has announced yet another sale on its Taito Arcade Archives' library of classic reissues (thanks @ohfivepro!).
The 50% off sale applies to 10 titles from the legendary arcade publisher Taito and is active across the Nintendo Switch eShop and the PlayStation store in Japan, as well as the PlayStation store in the US & UK.
According to the store pages for the games, the sale will reportedly end on October 9th in the UK and October 10th in the US, and will see the prices of the chosen games reduced to just £2.89/$3.99 from their usual starting price of £5.29/$7.99. This means it's a pretty great opportunity to nab some of these titles for slightly cheaper if you've yet to get around to buying them.
Here is the full list...
We're a little bit late on this one, but we thought it was worth highlighting all the same: Burnout 3: Takedown is 20 years old this month.
Developed by a Criterion Games team led by Alex Ward, Burnout 3 was the first title in the series to be published by EA and benefitted from a killer selection of real-world music tracks as a result.
However, the biggest draw of the game was how it evolved the carnage-based gameplay of the first two Burnout games with its innovative "takedown" system. This encouraged players to slam into their opponents, forcing them into oncoming traffic or trackside hazards.
Released on PS2 and Xbox on September 8th, 2004, it won numerous awards and is rightly considered to be the apex of the entire Burnout...
Namco's Japan-exclusive shoot 'em up Blast Off is coming to the Nintendo Switch eShop and PS4 on September 26th, as reported by Famitsu.
Originally released in arcades back in 1989, Blast Off is the sequel to Bosconian, which was launched 8 years earlier in 1981. It was developed by N.H. System, a short-lived Namco subsidiary that also worked on the isometric platformer Märchen Maze one year prior.
Designed to run on Namco's System 1 hardware, the sequel is a significant departure from its previous iteration, dropping the multi-directional scrolling of the original for a vertical scrolling format similar to other Namco titles like Xevious and Dragon Spirit.
It sees players fighting off a new alien threat with the help of four...
Mega Cat Studios has announced that it is bringing the top-down shooter Lethal Wedding to Genesis / Mega Drive via a Kickstarter campaign.
Described as "a love letter to 16-bit shooter classics like Zombies Ate My Neighbors and action flicks from the '80s and '90s," Lethal Wedding sees you assuming the role of a "bride on the warpath" who is tasked with hunting down a cartel of criminal clowns who have kidnapped her future husband just before the big day.
"With an intense two-player co-op mode that lets you and a friend mow down carnage-crazed carnies and psycho circus performers, an innovative Vow System that changes the way you play, and an over-the-top arsenal of wedding-themed weapons to wield, you'll want to save the date for...
We previously reported that Star Fox is getting a new update which will take advantage of Randy Linden's unofficial Super FX 3 chip, and now we've got another fan-made project with the same general goal.
Dubbed "Star Fox CD", the update will leverage the MSU-1 chip for CD-quality music, according to its developer, @RealSunlitSpace. It looks like this will be a separate project to @kandowontu's Star Fox EX, which was confirmed to be getting a Super FX 3 update in the future.
While CD music is the focus for now, @RealSunlitSpace says the long-term aim is to support Linden's Super FX 3 chip, which will also pave the way for force feedback via a special controller, also designed by Linden.
If you're keen on upgrading your Dreamcast for the modern era, then you'll already be aware mods such as Optical Disc Emulators and HDMI-out already exist. These enhancements allow you to run games from flash media and obtain the best possible picture quality but are quite expensive when purchased individually.
Thank goodness, then, for modder AshEvans81, who has created a new project that takes these two elements and combines them in a single board.
"I made a Dreamcast GD Emu thingy," says the modder. "Designed in about six hours. Using (mostly) code from Marcus Comstedt / zeldin. About two days debugging, to finally get it working. Loading times need some improvement. It has HDMI output, but I need to design a custom flex cable, to...
