Taking the Pokemon Legends subfranchise into Kalos is an exciting choice, but one Pokemon Legends: Z-A feature is bound to draw some ire. During February 27's Pokemon Presents, Game Freak and The Pokemon Company pulled the curtain back on Pokemon Legends: Z-A. This brand new Pokemon: Legends title will likely play a lot like Pokemon Legends: Arceus, but fans will have to wait a while before they see more about the title, including gameplay. However, fans do know that Pokemon Legends: Z-A is bringing back Mega Evolution. They also know the game is set in the Kalos region, specifically Lumiose City, which will serve as the entire setting of the game. Many have been wanting another Pokemon Legends game practically since Arceus came out...
Looking for a refresher before you start Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth? Here's everything you need to know. The first entry in the ongoing Final Fantasy 7 trilogy, Remake covers the entire Midgar portion of the original game. However, where the original spent about seven or so hours in the neon-lit city, Remake expands the chapter to a full-blown 40-hour adventure. So, what happens across those few dozen hours? Let's dive in. Bombing Mission Final Fantasy 7 Remake opens the same way as its '97 counterpart: with the bombing of Midgar's Sector 1 Mako Reactor. The operation is carried out by the eco-terrorist group Avalanche with a little help from our game's main character, Cloud Strife. Cloud Strife is not a member of the ragtag team, but...
Final Fantasy 7 Remake's narrative is a big deal. It takes the framework of a beloved classic and seeks to reimagine it, even if it means completely transforming its events and characters into something unknowable. But for the most part, with the exception of its last act and a fate defying army of whispers that pursue the ensemble cast, it's relatively faithful. Producer Yoshinori Kitase and director Naoki Hamaguchi told me in a recent interview that it was always the plan to deviate from the established canon, but in the first game, they waited until the very end to pull the rug out from beneath us. There are hints of deviation, such as a much earlier appearance of Sephiroth as he's folded into the main narrative, and the army of...
What's next for the world of Pokemon? A new Pokemon Presents livestream aimed to answer all of your burning questions today, as The Pokemon Company promised "exciting" news when it first teased this event. This short but informative broadcast was heavily focused on current Pokemon projects, as well as the various mobile games that have been released over the last couple of years. Pokemon Masters EX, Pokemon Sleep, and Pokemon Unite were all in the spotlight, but one of the biggest announcements here was the reveal of Pokemon: Trading Card Game Pocket. Out later in 2024, this will be a more streamlined approach to the mega-popular trading card game, and will be a collaborative effort between Creatures Inc, DeNA, and The Pokemon Company...
A brand new Pokemon Presents starts off today, celebrating the anniversary of the original release of Pokemon Red and Green in Japan. That said, let's dive right off into the presentation and see what the Poke Co. has in store. New Tera Raid battles are unveiled, featuring a mighty Venusaur, Charizard and Blastoise, each one being one week apart starting tomorrow with Venusaur. Pokemon Go gets a collaboration with the new Pokemon Horizon series, with a Pikachu wearing Cap's hat and Volt Tackle as a move. New Pokemon from Gen 9 will also debut in the game, as well as characters Lico and Roy. Pokemon Sleep is getting Raikou on March, with Entei and Suicune coming up later. Pokemon Masters celebrates 4 and a half years, and Geeta &...
The Tomb Raider 1-3 Remaster has been relatively well-received. Tomb Raider fans are glad to finally have something go their way after years in the wilderness, but as well as a reminder of how ahead of her time Lara was, the pendulum has swung both ways - it's also a reminder of how dated these games really are. The tank controls aren't intuitive, and the modern controls are janky in a game built for tanking. But now we've moved on to discussing what comes next for Tomb Raider. The answer should be the new 'unified' game that ties together the Legend trilogy and the Survivor trilogy, but as ever with Lara Croft in the modern era, it's a swan dive forward and a backflip back. I wrote that this new design was starting the era off on the...
Grand Theft Auto 6 has to come out with a gameplay trailer at some point, and when it does, some consequences may be inevitable. There's no questioning just how big of a game Grand Theft Auto 6 is going to be, even with so much time to go before its release. It's only natural that any new information about the game is going to be quickly snapped up by fans and prospective players. This is especially true for gameplay, which will show how much the series has evolved. However, Rockstar should be prepared for the inevitable deluge of attention. The reaction to Grand Theft Auto 6's first trailer made it clear what kind of hype has built up surrounding the game. After not seeing another installment aside from remakes since 2013, Grand Theft...
After two incredibly busy months, March is a more subdued affair when it comes to new releases. That doesn't mean that there aren't some big games to get excited for, but in comparison to February and its main-event debuts--like the rare leap-year release of Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth on February 29--March provides some welcome breathing space. Some of the highlights this month include WWE 2K24, a game that has been overshadowed by recent controversies at the home of powerslams and RKOs hailing from outta nowhere. This year's Wrestlemania Showcase looks like a fun trip down memory lane, and with Wrestlemania 40 looking to be one of the biggest live events in WWE history, it'll be fascinating to explore the matches responsible for defining...
From Software has finally revealed a substantial look at Elden Ring's upcoming DLC, Shadow of the Erdtree, with a new trailer. There's a lot packed in here, and we've poured over every frame with our lore caps on to see what can be gleaned from it. Here's everything we pulled from the trailer and what we think it means. Special thanks to GameSpotter Dave Klein and former GameSpotter Mason Downey for their lore-spotting eyes and helpful engagement in rampant speculation. We also have a ton of Elden Ring lore coverage and discussion. If you need a refresher, start with the Lore and History of the Lands Between. Shadow of the Erdtree will cost $40 USD and ios set to launch on June 21 on PC, PlayStation 4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S...
Good news for PlayStation VR 2 owners. Sony, in an update on their PlayStation Blog, have confirmed that they are working on PC VR support for the headset, which is officially only currently supported on the PlayStation 5 console. In the press update, they mention that testing is currently ongoing and that they hope to offer the functionality at some point this year. However, details are vague and we have no details on how the connection will be made, whether it be a direct tether to a compatible VR capable PC or a Quest-like solution with an app like Steam Link perhaps on its way to the PlayStation Store. While homebrew efforts have been made to get the PSVR2 working on PC, various hurdles meant that additional hardware was...
