Developer OutOfTheBit definitely has experience with cinematic puzzle platformers: Full Void was all about handcrafted 2D art, innovative mechanics, and atmospheric storytelling. OutOfTheBit is taking on that genre again with Nanuka: Secret of the Shattering Moon. Announced today, the game promises to fuse handcrafted animations, engaging combat, and magical adventure. This is all set in a believably fantastical world. It is set to launch in early 2025.
Nanuka's journey in a world inspired by the Sicilian landscape begins on an island. It seems peaceful and picturesque until a tale of magical abilities and a looming disaster reveals itself. It's up to Nanuka to prevent the threat at hand. As the story progresses, importance is placed...
This year has proven to be a pretty exciting first half for gaming. There have been some big surprises that kicked the year off with a bang, and it looks like the week of May 16 is set to bring some more titles to the forefront. From the surprising success of Helldivers 2 to larger titles, like Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, not meeting sales expectations, the first half of 2024 has been unpredictable.
The unpredictability of the year's first quarter has been exciting to watch unfold, and as the next phase of the year comes into focus, many new games await. However, one of the most exciting release windows to look forward to is the middle of May. As of right now, the week of May 16 is stacked with some strong contenders that...
Square Enix has dropped a ton of information about SaGa Emerald Beyond, the latest standalone title in the SaGa franchise that was first announced during a Nintendo Direct last September. The game features six protagonists in five unique story arcs; you can play the same arc two times and get two different experiences thanks to the branching plot points based on choices. There are 17 unique worlds, including a forest of skyscrapers and a world governed by five witches. Today's news about SaGa Emerald Beyond includes information on (and a trailer for) one of the main characters (Diva No. 5), the National Extradimensional Exploratory Task Force, characters who can join the retinue, three worlds, and the battle system.
Let's tackle that...
I'm not going to sugarcoat it: I have developed what might be described as an unhealthy obsession with certain reality TV shows. 1999 was integral when it comes to some of the shows that I'm still watching: it was the year Big Brother was created, and The Real World and Road Rules were continuing to dominate MTV alongside the second season of The Challenge (it was still called Real World/Road Rules Challenge). So just imagine my excitement when darkly comic reality TV thirst-person shooter The Crush House was announced today. Set in 1999 Malibu, the game has players produce each season of a reality show. It should be chaotic in the best of ways!
Jae has just become the producer of the hottest reality show around, The Crush House. But...
Dating visual novel games often have somewhat unique stories, but generally tend to use the same formula: of one person meets a bunch of people, said one person likes said bunch of people, and said one person must choose one from the bunch of people to live with harmoniously forever. I've played many, with a wide variety of stories. I've played a game about being a human dating cats, for crying out loud. In addition to dating lots of "people" in games, I've faced my fair share of Lovecraftian horror in action games like Call of Cthulhu and The Sinking City. The Sucker for Love series actually does combine original Lovecraftian stories with dating sims, and Steam players seem to love it. The second title, Sucker For Love: Date to Die...
If you want an accurate game about dinosaurs, please avert your eyes. Newly-announced shop sim Amber Isle features prehistroic animals from a range of eras, living side-by-side. (Fun fact: Stegosaurus lived more than 80 million years before Tyrannosaurus rex.) And as a bonus, they are all adorable. Amber Isle has the player moving to the village as its new (and only) shopkeep. It's not easy having to stock everything for everyone, but somebody's got to do it!
Begin by creating a character, and later on change clothes, crests, and colour to further individualise them. After that, spend your time maintaining your shop, befriending the locals, and improving the village. Amber Isle has seen better days, but improve it and other Paleofolk...
The PC version of the first-person survival horror adventure is set to be released via Steam next month, while the console versions are still slated for 2024. Are you prepared to confront ghosts, complete mind-bending puzzles, and unearth a conspiracy?
The Bridge Curse 2: The Extrication takes place at Wen Hua University, which is known for its ghost tales across Taiwan. It all begins when the school's film club decides to recruit new members by orchestrating a Carnival of Horror within an infamously haunted building on campus. Planning on resurrecting an old campus mystery, night is the only time to shoot. As the cameras begin rolling things get a little… weird. The line between fact and fiction becomes blurry as inexplicable things...
Xbox is reportedly preparing a Call of Duty Game Pass announcement, which could drop alongside Black Ops Gulf War's reveal during the Xbox Showcase.
While many players are still working their way through the Call of Duty achievements since Modern Warfare III dropped last year, it is that time of the year for the rumor mill to start churning out details about the next installment. According to reports, this year's Call of Duty title is Black Ops Gulf War, and it's been suggested we could see the reveal arrive during this year's Xbox Showcase in June. Interestingly, Xbox is reportedly preparing a Call of Duty Game Pass announcement as well, so we could be adding the popular shooter to our list of games coming to Game Pass in the...
The top-down arena shooter roguelite Brotato will be getting new DLC this summer titled Abyssal Terrors.
Along with new potatoes, items, and weapons, it will also add new maps (which transport you to the depths below) and new weapons. Perhaps most excitingly, the game is adding a free four-player couch co-op update, so you can team up with your friends and family.
Here's the full rundown courtesy of the Steam page, and you can check out the trailer above.
If you haven't played Brotato before, you take control of a potato who must mow down hordes of aliens with up to six weapons at once. Along the way, you'll select from a variety of traits and items to create all sorts of unique builds to help you survive.
Vampire Survivors is getting even more DLC on 9th May, but this one's particularly exciting, as it's teaming up with legendary Konami franchise Contra.
In Vampire Survivors: Operation Guns, you'll be rescuing the President's cousin's sister's dog from Red Falcon. Many classic Contra characters (even Brad Fang from Contra: Hard Corps) and weapons are entering the fray, and developer Poncle also promises a difficulty curve reminiscent of the arcade classic but blended with that roguelike gameplay from Vampire Survivors you know and love.
With 20 new weapons (including evolutions) and new stages to play through, it's time to jump back on the Vampire Survivors train once again. Or stay on it if you're anything like us and still playing...
Given that the passage of time has been bizarrely warped since the start of the pandemic, it may surprise you to learn that it has now been five years since the most recent entry in the Devil May Cry series. Devil May Cry 5 launched on PS4, Xbox One, and PC all the way back in March 2019, and in the half-decade since, we haven't heard a peep about Devil May Cry 6.
A mobile game called Devil May Cry: Peak of Combat did come out earlier this year.
Games take longer than ever to make, so it isn't that unusual for a sequel to take five years to arrive. For comparison, Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order also launched in 2019, and its sequel didn't arrive until 2023. Death Stranding debuted the same year, and its sequel isn't due until 2025. The...
American actor Gregory Joseph Connors may be the voice of Jason, one of the two protagonists of Grand Theft Auto 6. While the evidence pointing to that possibility is inconclusive, Game Rant has discovered that Connors's involvement in GTA 6 is much more of a certainty.
The question of who will play the lead roles in the next mainline Grand Theft Auto game has been the subject of rampant fan speculation for years. As far as the game's male protagonist is concerned, one long-standing theory was that the GTA 6 role of Jason went to Bryan Zampella. The actor himself was happy to stoke those rumors with frequent social media posts reminiscent of Vice City imagery. But evidence suggesting Zampella's involvement in the much-anticipated game...
When I was a kid, the internet was a simpler place. It was slower and it made a weird noise every time you logged on, but it felt easier. More utopian. All anyone could talk about was Chuck Norris and we all said 'rawr xd' a lot. That, and we all wanted Half Life 3. But that era is over, and gaming does not have a replacement.
Nobody talks about or expects Half Life 3 anymore, but for a while other games took its place. Tuning into The Game Awards or other gaming advertising showcases, comments have been flooded with various memes over the years. Sora in Smash, Elden Ring, GTA 6, and Silksong have all had their moment in the sun. But this seems to be fading, so what does that mean?
All The Games We Were Waiting For Are Here
Sora in...
Boss makes a dollar, I make a dime, that's why I poop on company time. This statement has become a well-worn mantra of the working man, but a recent indie game challenges its wisdom. Please Leave Me Alone, I Need to Poop is a game about balancing biological needs with the demands of the workplace, but it takes a quick hand at some WarioWare-style minigames to meet both urgent needs.
Please Leave Me Alone, I Need to Poop starts with the player character's boss calling and giving them notes for an important presentation. Unfortunately, this coincides with the protagonist's need to take a dump. This introduces a very important question: Do you hear your boss out, thus arriving to the presentation well-prepared and ready to go (in more...
Fallout: New Vegas has endured in the cultural zeitgeist in a way that few other games have. Even within the Fallout fandom, it's earned a prized position as a true classic of the RPG genre. That love is still reflected today, in goofy memes and fan art and enduring debates over which endgame is the right one. Even though the game has aged terribly in some respects — characters look rough, and not just from living in the apocalypse — it still persists as one of the high points of the Fallout franchise. The new Fallout TV series is set to premiere on Amazon, so there's seldom been a better time to revisit New Vegas or play it for the first time.
Fallout: New Vegas opens with an exploration of the Mojave Wasteland, setting up some of the...
The official Helldivers Twitter account has announced that players' latest operation was a success, with the forces of Super Earth wiping out an entire enemy faction. The Automatons were cornered to a few holdout worlds days ago and defeated for good today, which begs the question: where does the game go now, sans an entire enemy type?
It's an incredibly bold move for a live game, even the famously elastic and reactive Helldivers 2, whose wartime plot twists and surprise gear upgrades are masterminded by a shadowy GM known only as Joel. Swift Disassembly commenced on Friday, with a three-day time limit for players to complete enough missions on the bot-held planets of Maia, Durgen, and Tibit. With Durgen's fall today, it certainly...
Persona 6 could have a good idea on its hands by revitalizing one of the lesser-appreciated mechanics of Persona 5 Royal. The Persona games have established a lot of mechanics over the years, and Persona 6 is pretty likely to follow the same general approach. Even beyond that, though, there are a lot of good ideas that could benefit from a second look. Something that wasn't especially noticeable before could get turned into a highly useful feature in the next game, and Persona 6 could be due for a big, yet unexpected upgrade with an unorthodox approach to weather.
There are plenty of features that should return in Persona 6, some of which are obvious. For instance, the Social Link system and Extra Turn mechanic are not only series...
Square Enix is currently undergoing a large-scale organisational "overhaul" and it seems Dragon Quest has been impacted.
According to a new report from Bloomberg, Dragon Quest's "top producer" Yu Miyake, who is now 56 years of age (and has contributed to "numerous" Dragon Quest titles over the years), will be "stepping down from the role" following delays of the new entry.
He will supposedly "head up" Square Enix's Tokyo-based smart game division from here on out. Miyake originally joined the Japanese publisher and developer back in 1992.
As for his replacement, it's believed 53-year-old NieR producer Yosuke Saito will take over his position. Saito is apparently a "strong candidate" for the role according to Bloomberg's sources...
With BioShock 4 and Judas both on the horizon, fans of the classic BioShock games and action-oriented immersive sims ought to be excited. That being said, it's only natural that Judas will be compared to BioShock 4, with the former being seen as a sort of spiritual successor to BioShock Infinite thanks to the involvement of Ken Levine, former creative lead of the franchise. This unavoidable comparison, coupled with the prestigious history of the BioShock IP, means that BioShock 4 has its work cut out for it.
Similar to what Microsoft did with 343 Industries and Halo, 2K Games created Cloud Chamber with the express intention of carrying the BioShock series forward. Since BioShock 4 will be the first game from this creative unit, it...
A huge amount of excitement is present throughout the gaming industry over Grand Theft Auto 6, even before Rockstar has released any information about the multiplayer experiences that the game will offer. GTA Online has rewritten what can be expected from the franchise's multiplayer in recent years, and many fans are expecting its formula to be taken to even greater heights with the upcoming game's 2025 release.
It seems likely that the scale and content of Grand Theft Auto 6's multiplayer will exceed the capabilities of the current state of GTA Online, and this may have huge implications for the GTA+ subscription service. While the consumer benefits of GTA+ may only appeal to hardcore fans of GTA Online as things stand, the next...
