Sega has revealed a brand new trailer for the upcoming Switch exclusive Super Monkey Ball Banana Rumble, this time focusing on the game's numerous multiplayer modes. Launching on 25th June, 2024, the title will allow for 2 players to tackle the main campaign via co-op play, while up to 16 players can take part in the online modes. We've got Race, Banana Hunt, Ba-BOOM!, Gold Rush and Robo Smash on offer, and they all look totally bonkers if the new trailer is anything to go by. So let's take a look at what each mode has in store: The Super Monkey Ball franchise has been a bit, shall we say, up and down in terms of its quality, so hopefully this new Switch release will be able to stand amongst some of the IP's most celebrated...
The Suikoden spiritual successor Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes is now available and unfortunately it's got some performance issues on Switch. If you are wondering how the developer Rabbit & Bear Studios will respond to this going forward, the Japan patch notes could be a sign of what's to come. In an update to "all backers" of the game in this location, the team revealed the details of the Version 1.0.3 patch. According to a rough translation of this update (via social media), this patch fixes bugs that affect game progress, improves stability, and fixes other minor bugs. It's worth mentioning the US version of the Switch release is already Version 1.0.3 at launch, so all of the updates in this patch have been applied. Player...
Two classic titles join the Nintendo Switch Online Expansion Pack game lineup. Available starting April 24th will be the motorcycle racing game Extreme G and another quirky racing game, Iggy's Reckin' Balls. Both titles will feature local and online multiplayer.
Super Evil Megacorp will release roguelike action game Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Splintered Fate for Switch in July as a timed console exclusive, the developer announced. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Splintered Fate first launched for Apple Arcade on May 4, 2023. "At Super Evil we aspire to make incredible shared gaming moments, and we are very excited to bring Splintered Fate to Switch to allow more players to play together with family and friends both at home and on the go," said Super Evil Megacorp studio head Ian Fielding, in a press release. "We're looking forward to collaborating with Paramount Game Studios in delivering many more updates and thrills as part of our long term commitment to the game and our players. Splinter...
A new Nintendo Switch firmware update is here. System software version 18.0.1 has been released. This update offers the typical stability features as all other updates have, while also fixing a problem some users have experienced with wireless connectivity. As for Atmosphere compatibility concerns, SciresM says that the current Atmosphere 1.7.0 pre-release version should work fine with the new firmware update. Source
The Switch is no stranger to an arcade racer or two. While it's all well and good playing these with a standard Joy-Con or Pro Controller set-up, this latest dock prototype from Far East Pinball has left us firmly of the belief that the likes of Out Run should be played no other way. Is it a pure novelty? Maybe. But the independent manufacturer's arcade-inspired add-on at least appears to be the most authentic way of capturing that driving cabinet feel from the comfort of your own home (albeit on a much smaller scale). The dock does away with regular button inputs and swaps in a miniature steering wheel and shift lever instead. As you can see from the demonstration video below, the prototype (which was showcased at Game Antique 2024...
Vanillaware and Atlus have announced an upcoming patch for Unicorn Overlord, bringing some welcome bug fixes and improvements to the tactical RPG (thanks, Nintendo Everything). Although the Ver 1.04 patch is out now for PS5 and PS4, the Switch version is currently subject to approval from Nintendo. Hopefully we won't have to wait too long until it's live, but for now, let's take a look at what's in store (Google translated): Unicorn Overlord launched last month on 8th March, 2024 and was well received a positive score of 9/10 from yours truly, in which we praised the deep and rich gameplay, the stunning visuals and music, the great cast of characters, and more. We'll be sure to update you once the update is live.
In a new update from Bushiroad Games, the character line up for the upcoming EVO Japan 2024 demo has been confirmed. All up there'll be six playable fighters which include "Gon, Killua, Leorio, Kurapika, Hisoka, and Chairman Netero" (PR Times via Siliconera). Once again, EVO Japan runs between 27th - 29th April 2024. No new details have been shared on the upcoming fighting game, but it'll be playable at EVO Japan 2024, which takes place from 27th to 29th April in Tokyo. The manga and anime series Hunter x Hunter is getting a new fighting game and it's being developed by Eighting and published by Bushiroad Games. It's officially titled Hunter x Hunter: Nen x Impact. Platforms and a release date haven't been revealed just yet. It's...
One game we were genuinely surprised with when it rolled out on the Switch eShop last year was the immersive action-adventure Strayed Lights. In our review here on Nintendo Life, we mentioned how the combat was unique and accessible (even if it did get a little repetitive at times) and noted how the story was told in a subtle, heartfelt way. There were some other setbacks tied to performance but overall it was a fun game. If you're still curious about this one and would prefer a hard copy of the title, Limited Run Games has now announced it's releasing a physical version for the Switch. Pre-orders will go live on 26th April 2024 for USD $39.99 with the game estimated to ship in September. Here's a bit more about Strayed Lights...
Remember the Indie World showcase from earlier this week? It was sweet, huh? Well, to show just how sweet it was, Nintendo has today taken to Twitter to release its regular infographic highlighting all of the titles that were featured. Now it's true, this Indie World graphic might not be quite as stacked with icons as those that we have seen from full-fat Directs in the past (even the February Partner Direct one was beefier, if we're honest), but it's still a handy one-stop shop to see the full lineup at a glance either and we are particular fans of some of the logos on show. As you can see, while they may have been few in number, there was actually a good number of featured games to get excited about. This wasn't the first time that...
Nintendo's marketing campaign for Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door is well underway at this point (as you would hope, given its 23rd May release date) and that means we are getting to see a lot about what the remake has in store. A new short trailer shared on Twitter today contains some fresh footage of the game, giving us our first look at select locations, map reveal animations and, perhaps most importantly, the cloudy chapter boss Smorg — who's looking just as intimidating as we would have hoped. You can find the new footage in the following tweet from @NintendoUK. Yes, it's only 25 seconds long, but what can we say? We're excited! All in all, things are looking really rather swell for the Switch remake. There are only a few...
Rabbit & Bear Studios, the developer behing the upcoming Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes, has confirmed that it is "moving forward" with a sequel after the franchise creator's death earlier this year (thanks, VGC). Yoshitaka Murayama, who also created the Suikoden franchise, sadly passed away following complications from an ongoing illness. In a Reddit AMA session, Rabbit & Bear Studios confirmed that it hopes to "carry on Murayama'a legacy" while outright confirming that a sequel is in the works. When later asked if the team could share any memories of Murayama, it replied "No matter how bad Murayama's mood or his health, he was always happy and smiling as soon as he saw the joy and excitement of his fans. I know that he loved you...
Although we're still waiting on the Stardew Valley '1.6 Update' for Switch, the game's creator Eric 'ConcernedApe' Barone is already rolling out new updates for the PC version. In the latest update (1.6.4 update), the creator has added all sorts of new content and features on top of everything that's already been included in the 1.6 update. The highlight in 1.6.4 is the fact there are now 20 new 'alternate' main layouts and 20 new volcano mines layouts. There's a bunch of other content, and along with this are some translation changes, balance changes, visual improvements, quality-of-life improvements, bug fixes, and much more. While we wait for Version 1.6 to arrive on Switch (according to a previous update earlier this month it's...
Nintendo has been building up excitement for the return of Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door with regular reminders the game is on the way. Just earlier this week, its social accounts introduced the main cast of the game and now it seems to be sharing a slightly more detailed breakdown of each character starting with Yoshi. Yoshi has similar abilities to previous games, where he can flutter jump in the air to cross short gaps. He also comes in many different colours in TTYD, and like the rest of the crew will help out Mario in combat. Here's a look, which also shows him in battle: As a bonus, Nintendo has also uploaded a brief clip of "Rawk Hawk" (AKA The Golden Grandstander) who happens to be the reigning champ of Glitz Pit...
Mere days ago, I was whining about how a new trailer for Cupid Parasite: Sweet and Spicy Darling didn't quite make up for the lack of a known release date. Someone somewhere must have heard my cries, because today Idea Factory International announced the game's release date. It also dropped a Fan Disc trailer that traces the throughline between the best endings of Cupid Parasite and Cupid Parasite: Sweet and Spicy Darling. The first game in the series, Cupid Parasite, follows a top bridal advisor named Lynette at Cupid Corporation in glitzy Los York. Lynette also happens to be Cupid herself, desperate to get a promotion. To do so, she has to handle the matchmaking of the Parasite 5 – who just so happen to be infamous for being hopeless...
When I think of Idea Factory otome games, much of what comes to mind is as cute and colourful as the upcoming Cupid Paradise: Sweet and Spicy Darling. Don't get me wrong, those are wonderful and creative games – but what if an otome visual novel decides to go dark with a supernatural theme? You end up with 9 R.I.P., where players will get swept away with Japanese urban legends, ghosts, demons, and spirits. It has already launched in Japan but now it's been confirmed that the haunting title will also be coming West for Nintendo Switch – and sometime this year! Towns always have gossip. It's usually about who is hooking up with who, which is kind of where 9 R.I.P. ends up leading anyway. Here, there's an old rumour about people being...
Apologies for the incorrect date in the header image – Nintendo AU never published one so this is UK time. As always, expect about 20 minutes of announcements and updates on indie games coming soon (or soon-ish) to Nintendo Switch. While all of these are confirmed for Nintendo's console, there is a very good chance they are already available or launching on other platforms. Actually, several of them specifically state that they are timed console exclusives. I've translated seasons to quarters to make it more friendly for both hemispheres; for example, "this summer" becomes Q3 2024. Now let's get to the goodies! Game highlights Little Kitty, Big City (Double Dagger Studio) The title Little Kitty, Big City describes this game perfectly...
Braid: Anniversary Edition for Nintendo Switch has been pushed back a few weeks to 14th May 2024, Thekla Inc. has confirmed. The enhanced rerelease of the classic indie puzzle platformer was originally due to launch on 29th April, so we don't have to wait much longer to get our hands on the game. It's not all bad news, however. Jonathan Blow, the director of the game, has revealed even more new features coming to this anniversary release. On top of what we already know — improvements to sound, repainted visuals, enhanced animations, the choice between the old and new styles, and over 15 hours of commentary — we'll also be getting 14 "Commentary Index Levels" to accompany that commentary, 13 brand new puzzle levels, and 12 alternate...
Developer Tomorrow Corporation has announced that it has delayed World of Goo 2 on the Switch to 2nd August, 2024. Originally earmarked for 23rd May, the delay is apparently due to the team "pumping so much Goo" in the game - whatever that means. In layman's terms though, it's likely that the game simply needs a bit more time to iron out the details; you know, nuke the bugs, polish up the gameplay, the usual. We're fine with a delay if it means a better game is on the horizon. Announced during the Nintendo Direct back February, World of Goo 2 is the sequel to the 2008 cult hit World of Goo, released on the Wii and Nintendo Switch, among other platforms. Its gameplay is centred aroung creating unique structures by utilising goo...
Mojang's insanely popular survival-crafting game Minecraft is celebrating the new Kung Fu Panda movie with some new themed DLC. The DreamWorks Kung Fu Panda DLC can be purchased from the Minecraft Marketplace and is an "adventure map" filled with "action-packed battles, epic showdowns from the movies, and pand-tastic co-op action". Here's a bit about it: As part of this DLC, you'll also be able to visit Mr. Ping's Noddle Shop, take a rest under the Peach Tree, and seek lost artifacts. There's also the ability to battle enemies of the past: Mojang is also offering a free in-game character creator item from the dressing room in the form of a Dragon Warrior's Hat.
