When a yakuza legend loses his memory, what does he do?
He becomes a pirate, of course! It may not be such a realistic path, but it makes sense when you think of how much the two careers have in common. Goro Majima is a notorious ex-yakuza who finds himself shipwrecked on a sparsely-populated Pacific island six months after teaming up with Kiryu for a massive battle in the Millennium Tower. He has the bits of a boat with him, but absolutely no memory of who he is or what he's done. Helped by the young islander who saved him, Majima begins a search for clues to his past — not expecting the powder-keg world that awaits.
Majima and the boy, Noah, end up involved in a conflict between cutthroat criminals, modern-day pirates, and other scoundrels over a legendary treasure. Assemble your crew and upgrade your shop while exploring the ocean and making yourself a legend. Expect the unexpected when it comes to friendships. When an enemy ship has yours in sight, a real-time cannon battle begins. Move into position, avoid fire, and shoot your cannons at the enemy ship. Once it's sufficiently damaged, board it to take down the captain in crew vs. crew brawls. There are two fighting styles available to to use. Mad Dog involves speed, agility, and flair for precise, powerful blows; Pirate allows you to dual-wield short swords and deploy tricky pirate tools.
Developed by Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio and published by Sega, Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii will be released for PC via Steam/Microsoft, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series, and Xbox One on February 28, 2025.
Urban Myth Dissolution Center is launching for a second console
Previously announced for PC and Nintendo Switch, psycho-detective mystery adventure game Urban Myth Dissolution Center will also be released for PlayStation 5 simultaneously. In Japan, it will also launch physically for both PlayStation and Nintendo Switch.
The game follows Azami Fukari, who runs the daily operations of the Dissolution Center. She also gets tasks with solving mysteries by using her ability to see the memories of locations through her glasses. Due to the paranormal activity her cases involve, she will encounter cursed relics, dimensional anomalies, and otherworldy beings.
Developed by Hakababunko and published by Shueisha Games, Urban Myth Dissolution Center will be released for PC via Steam, PlayStation 5, and Nintendo Switch in February 2025.
Noir adventure puzzle game A Death in the Red Light launches tomorrow
A Death in the Red Light has you become a hard-boiled Dutch detective taken straight from history. It's 1998, and you must solve an (alleged) murder in the most sketchy street of the time. Zeedijk, known as Heroin Alley, is so bad that even police won't go without backup. You will experience a city torn apart by drugs, illicit sex, and social unrest.1998 is when reforms to clean up Amsterdam and tackle its problems aren't in effect yet, and the setting roots the story in real life while telling the story of a city's darkest period.
The game's design is based on the critically acclaimed escape game of the same name. It has been rebuilt with new graphics, audio, and an expanded storyline with new puzzles. The developer wants to use the game format to provide a completely new experience, even if someone has previously played the escape game.
Developed by Mystery City Games and published by indie.io, A Death in the Red Light will be released for PC via Steam on September 23 (NA time zones).
Short story collection Miniatures launches this November
Watch the world shift in Miniatures, described as a "peculiar, artist-led experience." Reconnect with the bittersweet childhood memories through four stories based on strange objects found in an old wooden box. Open the box — and your mind — to discover the curious objects inside.
While reflecting on childhood, you'll engage with dream-like puzzles by building objects, inspecting items, and untangling lost memories. Players on iOS, Steam Deck, and Nintendo Switch will have the ability to use touch controls.
Developed and published by Other Tales Interactive, Miniatures will be released for iOS, PC via Steam, and Nintendo Switch on November 14.
