The Last of Us 1: 20 Years Later Guide

It's been 20 years since the Prologue, and Joel now works as a smuggler in Boston. The chapter starts with a cutscene introducing Tess. Once outside, follow her through the gate past the kneeling civilians.

Optional Conversation #1

Just past the kneeling civilians, across from the checkpoint, you'll see a newspaper stand with two people nearby. Get close and they'll notice Joel. Talk to them for an Optional Conversation. After chatting, go back to Tess and show your papers to the checkpoint guards. A bomb hits a truck, trapping you inside.

Run back the way you came, following Tess into a building on the left. She'll give you a Health Kit, which you can use by pressing up on the d-pad and R2. Follow Tess down the hall to learn about Marlene. You'll reach a big room with an entertainment center on the left. Help Tess move it by holding triangle and pushing right on the stick. Then crawl through the hole to Beyond the Wall.
