After a good long while away, there's some limited tuning options available in two of this week's three races — running every 20 minutes (or 30 minutes for Race C) across the next seven days — which require a little bit of settings knowledge.
Race A gives you an island of basic turn up and drive racing that's characterized Daily Races since they were introduced in the GT Sport Beta, but as usual it features no DR updates. That means that, no matter how well or badly your race goes, your Driver Rating will be unaffected. Beware though that your Sportsmanship Rating (SR) will still update.
It's a six-lap sprint around the Short Course layout of Watkins Glen — skipping out the whole Boot section — for the R34-generation Skyline GT-R. You only need fit the Skyline with Sports Hard tires for the race, but do be aware of the False Start Check.
This feature penalizes you instantly should you move between the final start light coming on and them all going out to begin the race. That penalty takes the form of a short, on-the-spot cut in engine power, and you might — depending on how far up the grid you are — become the scene of a big crash as a result.
Race B and C share a couple of features this week. The first is by way of vehicle tuning, where you'll be able to adjust the anti-roll bar, damping (bound and rebound), and spring frequency in suspension, and differential torque settings in addition to the usual brake balance.
Notably both races will also require a trip through the pit lane but by way of two differing regulation types. For Race B you'll have to head down the lane but you don't need to take on tires or fuel (and won't want to), while in Race C there's a required swap so that you use both the Racing Hard and Racing Medium tire during the race. Failing to adhere in either case earns you a one-minute penalty after the race.
Race B will be a little frantic, comprising a ten-lap race of the compact Brands Hatch Indy Circuit in the Gr.4 cars. This will have all the energy of a BTCC race, so you'll really aim just to survive with the Racing Hard tires fitted to these production-based racers not providing a ton of grip.
There's a more open course for Race C, by way of the redesigned Deep Forest circuit. Only it's in the reverse direction, so that the new hairpin is the first braking zone on the track. Not to mention that pit lane exit on the racing line…
It's a 14-lap race for the Gr.3 cars and not only will you need to make that tire swap during the race, you're going to need to keep an eye on the wear rates. The tire wear multiplier is set at 7x — seven times standard rate — which is getting a little high, and will mean you'll want to ensure you don't run the stickier Medium tires past their best.
Daily Races are the main ranked multiplayer events in GT7. Your Driver Rating (DR) and Sportsmanship Rating (SR) are determined by your performances, updating after each race, and these are used to set your ranking and leagues for the game's flagship esports series each season.
In order to access the Daily Races, you'll need to unlock Sport Mode, by completing Menu Book 9 ("Championship: Tokyo Highway Parade") in the GT Cafe single player hub. A PlayStation Plus subscription is required to take part.
With GT7's Daily Races updating every Monday across the game's life to date, the next new set should arrive on Monday, September 23.
