The Thaumaturge developer Fools Theory has announced the PS5 port of its demonic, detective RPG will release on 4th December 2024, nine months after the original PC launch. In the fairly well-received isometric RPG, you shall play a well-seasoned thaumaturge who seeks to unravel their "troubled past" in Warsaw, Poland in the year 1905. See it in action in the trailer above.

The game costs £29.50 / $34.99 on PC so expect a similar price for the PS5 version, though if you want to try before you buy, a demo is available now on the PS Store. Combat is turn-based while exploration and dialogue play out a bit like Disco Elysium.

Since the RPG already released on PC in March, we have a good idea of its overall quality. It garnered a Metacritic rating of 74 upon launch, with the likes of PC Gamer stating: "The Thaumaturge works because it locates itself within our own world. By refusing to lose itself in allegory, it turns what could have been another by-the-book RPG into an uncommonly mature and impactful echo of history, just with a few more floating skulls than we're used to."

RPG Site was also a fan: "The supernatural powers at protagonist Wiktor Szulski's disposal pave the way to a satisfying battle system that carves out its own identity, despite looking like something out of Shin Megami Tensei or Persona upon first glance. There are technical rough edges here and there, but I firmly believe that RPG fans should definitely check out The Thaumaturge whenever they find time in this busy year of RPGs in 2024."

It's not known yet whether any changes — such as to the control scheme — have been made for the console release. Will you check out The Thaumaturge on PS5 before the year draws to a close? Let us know in the comments below.
